  “Il sottoscritto” scrive in questo blog in maniera un po’ particolare: non potendo vantare un alto tasso di esistenza (beh, di questo ci sarebbe da discutere, comunque) in genere trae da questa situazione più oneri che onori. Questa volta mi fanno scrivere anche un articolo che normalmente dovrebbe essere redazionale: una recensione del concerto di Glen Hansard (con i suoi The Frames al gran completo) e Lisa Hannigan al Viper di Firenze, ieri, 22 febbraio 2013. Perché? Perché si parla di emozioni. Di emozioni grandi come il cielo d’Irlanda.

  Mentre ormai si avvicina l’uscita di Rhytm And Repose, il primo lavoro da solista di Glen Hansard, The Frames, la band che esiste da venti anni e che, con la parentesi Swell Season, accompagna la vita artistica (e non solo) di Glen da oltre venti anni, si è esibita nella ultima puntata della decima serie di Other Voices, il programma di RTÉ dedicato alla musica indipendente irlandese.

  Forse uno dei problemi di un artista è quello di avere più amici di quelli che conosce, di quelli che sa di avere. Certo, ormai molte cose sono cambiate nel rapporto tra chi sta sul palco e chi sta ad ascoltarlo, a guardarlo: adesso la possibilità di interazione tra i tanti comuni noi e i pochi loro è amplificata dal fatto che sia noi sia loro usiamo lo stesso strumento con cui, per chiunque, è possibile dire dove sei e che cosa stai facendo a tutti gli altri, a tutto il mondo.

  Our little baby For The Birds has nearly reached double digits and although one shouldn’t have favorites, we do all have rather a soft spot for this collection of songs. It was a time of massive change for the band and there was a sense of freedom, excitement and nervousness in the air in 2001 when we released it on our own plateau label. this album marked a very special time for us all within The Frames family and we wanted to mark this tenth anniversary date with a gig to play the album through in our favorite Dublin venue – Vicar Street. 30th march is ten years to the day when we took it on the road as younger whippersnappers… this will be a seated show as i think this album lends itself to that environment… anyone who is there may feel the urge to stand and rok during Early Bird, or shuffle about during fighting on the stairs and hopefully help to sing it out with Mighty Sword. there may even be a collective tapping of toes during lay me down – but im sure it’ll all be good :0)

  Tix are going on sale on january 24th at 9am through ticketmaster. Also, a nice bit of icing on the cake is that the full Interference experience have agreed to open the show. might see you there so!

  In other news, the obscenely talented mr Colm Mac Con Iomaire and his hares, have just landed in Sydney and starts a run of shows in australia in the next few days. Sydney and Melbourne to be precise. full dates are at colms site www.theharescorner.com

  Those other fairly handy-with-a-tune folks – The Swell Season – are confirmed to play Coachella festival, California on april 16th… and Glen will be making a 5 song appearance as part of the Barretstown charity gig at the Olympia in Dublin on april 1st. Tix for that are not on sale yet but will be soon.

  Thats about the size of it. Everyone is enjoying a bit of down time and letting their bodies and souls get reacquainted with each other after much touring action in the past few years… All is good. Happy new year to you all and as ever, thanks for the support and the love.

• Italish Stories 2: verso la pubblicazione!

  Il concorso legato alla pubblicazione di Italish Stories 2 si è concluso con Silvia Silvi vincitore assoluto e Lucia Niccolini, Enrico Campagni e Francis X. Bell classificati secondi a pari merito.
  Italish Stories 2 uscirà il ventuno dicembre, solstizio d’inverno, e sarà presentato in anteprima al direttore di Ireland Literature Exchange Sinéad Mac Aodha e a Enrico Reggiani, professore associato di lingua e letteratura Inglese all’Università Cattolica di Milano, che ci pregiamo di avere come soci onorari e che hanno direttamente contribuito alla diffusione e al sostegno del progetto.
  Italish Stories 2 sarà inoltre presentato, così come già il primo volume, all’ambasciatore irlandese in Italia Patrick Hennessy, e alla band irlandese The Frames di Glen Hansard, che è a tutti gli effetti una delle fonti ispiratrici del progetto italish.
  Ai vincitori del concorso, i libri gentilmente donati dall’ILE e i ‘nostri’ libri.
  Ringraziando chi ci ha sostenuto, e, già da ora, gli scrittori che vorranno presentarci le loro opere per Italish Stories 3, ecco il podio… e i premi!
